Lifeguard Applications for Support Swimmers
Weston Marine Lake Mudlarks have sourced funding from the West of England Sports Trust (WeSport) in line with North Somerset’s Health grants to train up six open water lifeguards (including insurance, kit, uniform and portable defibrillators). These individuals will be trained via the Royal Lifesaving Society locally.
We are looking for six local people (from Weston) who fulfil the following criteria and have time and space in their days to initially undertake the training but also to work with the Mudlarks in sourcing the lonely and nervous new swimmers of Weston.
Open Water Lifeguards
Six spaces will be available for OWLs (Open Water Lifeguards) for Weston Marine Lake:
Every candidate attending a OWL course must:
- Be 16-years-old or over at the time of assessment
- Be competent and confident in open water
- Be able to submerge under the water confidently
- Before the course, candidates must be able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/ open water swimming continuously on their front and show urgency.
Confirmation on the course dates is coming. We are expecting it to be trained locally. The course is three days.
Please send in your applications to the Mudlarks and let us know why you would like to undertake this course, and plans for finding and supporting lonely new swimmers.
Deadline – 5pm, Monday 31st July 2023.
Anyone who is interested in sea or lake swimming (which is free of charge) but has concerns about their skills, safety and understanding of water can be formally assigned a qualified companion. We are not looking to teach swimming at this time.
We would also like you to support us at Lake events (for example – Synchro swimming performances).
The Mudlarks have a community of over 10,000 members and we receive enquiries about swimming in the Lake nearly every day from nervous swimmers.
