Meet the Swimmers – Tim

WHO ARE YOU?

My name is Tim. I work as a Quality Engineer. I am married and have two children who are both autistic.

As well as swimming I enjoy cycling, meditation and reading. I see these hobbies as my 4 cornerstones. They keep me healthy in mind, spirit and body.

WHERE HAVE YOU TRAVELLED FROM?

I live in Bridgwater, I travel by car to the lake. I hope to get a few rides across to the lake in but I haven’t been able to combine the two just yet.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THE LAKE?

I found out about the lake from Facebook and thought I’d give it a try once the lake had re-opened. Like many I’ve been hooked ever since.

WHAT SORT OF A SWIMMER ARE YOU?

I started swimming in the sea last October so I’ve nearly completed my first year!

I like to get up early while the rest of the family are sleeping. I make a coffee for my thermos and head over. I like social swimming, the people I have met have all been so inspiring
That said I relish the solace of early morning swims too on my own when the lake is so peaceful and quiet.

I am not a fast swimmer, I like to plod in the water. It’s not a rush thing, it’s a chance to savour the environment around me.

ARE YOU A JOINER?

The supermares group has been so inspirational, there have been so many people who have kept me going when it’s dark, cold and raining – they don’t even know they have, their positivity and enthusiasm is catchy.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES HAVING THE LAKE OPEN MAKE TO YOU?

I can’t begin to describe how significant the marine lake has been to me.
With a gorgeous but hectic family the lake gives me a little breathing space, a chance to reset, find solace, and recharge my batteries. It’s a chance to step out from the world for a little while.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO TELL US?

Though we are in the height of summer at the moment, I am so looking forward to experiencing the lake through the autumn/winter seasons. The dark, chilly mornings are beckoning and I can’t wait! (Editor: Tim submitted this info some weeks ago!)
